Colorado Niobrara Formation

The Niobrara Formation is an upper Cretaceous marine formation. It lies below the Pierre Shale. The fossils below were found in Boulder County.

The Niobrara is famous for its vertebrate fauna -- marine reptiles, such as mosasaurs, and fish, some of which were enormous, such as Xiphactinus. One good source of information is the Oceans of Kansas Paleontology website.
